what is health is it just when you have an absence of symptoms or is there more to it well the World Health Organization says that health is a state of optimal well-being it’s where everything in your body is working the best it can where every system is working optimally that’s the kind of health that we’re talking about that I’m talking about and that’s where you have quality of life not just for the moment but for a long long time to come in our healthcare system however we talk about health as the absence of symptoms and think about that for a while because everyone knows that it takes 20-30 years probably to develop heart disease to where you have a heart attack so the heart attack is the first symptom but it took 20-30 years to get there so when did you start losing health was at the moment that you got the heart attack no obviously it was the moment that you started that slip-and-slide and that’s how we want to start thinking about and we have a health care model that pays no attention to that whatsoever the model or sick care model is all about treating symptoms as a chiropractor we’re not even allowed to work on people unless we’re treating a symptom that’s how absurd that the whole situation has gotten and so how do we want to think about it what is it that’s supposed to work what is this thing called life what is how do they relate well one of my favorite analogies that we want to start thinking about is if you have a person who is standing up and he’s healthy and is doing well and then I know this is very hypothetical but bear with me and then this person falls down and in the first 10 seconds we managed to run all of the usual medical tests on him so some things we can’t run like blood pressure is not going to show up heart beat is not going to show up but if we run blood work we check his hormone levels we check blood sugar cholesterol levels we take an x-ray we run MRIs all of those tests all The blood work and x-rays and MRIs and still be dead right makes no sense whatsoever. Those tests are the ones we are running for the moment and it’s the result of all those processes that have led to the death of the dead person.
The answer is that there are no signals life and health is how much signals you have and how well they are processed. What are the signs and what it looks like in this moment of change? g How are the processes working? What is the need for a body? What is the need for a body that is supplied and processed? Information processor first we are information first and we are a physical body second sure we have a physical body sure we have limbs and mechanics and joints and levers but that is secondary information is first vibration information signals how well that stuff works. The primary and the body is more like a printout so if we compare the body with a computer with the computer and the software that runs it we can put together the best hardware together but we have a healthy operating system if we have healthy programs.
What is the most important thing in health care? When I was sitting down and talking to my roommates about what it was like to study medicine and what I was doing, they were doing really well. ‘t is it and they are right because it is really hard to define what a healthy person is and what is not so healthy a question that has traditionally been asked? Things like this one and the people on the other side of the dead and the people on the other side are always kind of saying that you know this person over here or maybe this person’s over here is the case. what at bit Health is what I mean, but it’s not quite the right thing to do. There is a blue person out there we go and this blue person has a body and I think the best description of what I found is a person or a simplest person who is free from injury and free from illness. Injury and pain means that they are free from injury and pain means that they have got the right thing to do. The mind is doing the same thing and that’s really hard I mean between the lines of the sick and the healthy, but we can also replace the dead with the dead. know maybe not sick lady play on this c You could have an incredible body but your mind could be giving you trouble and then there is another recipe to learn. Relationships are also really important and they are very important and they are very connected to your mind. Relationships are also one of the most important things in our lives and if they are not going well then we are going to have a life and living a . Drawing our blue person here is not a blue man and we’ve got it. Our personal level of health again and that again has to do with things like your hygiene and your freedom from illness or injury. Then you take more than one person and group them together and then you get the same thing and I am just repeating the same thing because I am the only person doing the same thing. ‘m going to group it together is another word There is a lot of community and level that we use to hear about a lot of different groups of people.
There are a lot of people out there who are doing a lot of action and community use, and we’ve got two blue people over here and we’ve got green people over here. The group of people and trying to say which one is the healthier than the other is probably the healthiest in this case and then the figure of why it is so important to find out what kind of population it is. Just like groups of individuals and then you got the public level and let me find a cool color for public health is just an extension or it’s just a broader term that basically means the same thing lay There is a great deal of policy and action and it’s even bigger groups of people. There are lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of red people and red people out there who are really into big numbers. There are many other groups and comparing them to the public level and you have to run your society and how you spend your money. Many doctors and public policies are often trying to figure out how much money we can afford. on this and on this so that we can you ow solve a problem and put doctors to work on this and how we can organize our entire society This is really just about what you think about means and what it means for global health. The world is trying to find the best solutions and solutions to work and that takes everything in place and looks at everything. Public health is often the most common form of and in many ways, it is not the case that a country’s is often overlooked. Big Epidemics We’re Talking About Large Epidemics We’re Talking About Large Epidemics Groups of people that we’ll be compatible with and other large groups of people are trying to find solutions that will make everybody. Successful and happy and talking about our gonna of other stuff I hope that you enjoy it and that you come back to our city.
What is Health? (Philosophical Definition)
Some definitions are very simple and take away from the idea of a disease that is as simple as it is a disease and simply as a definition of health. Something positive about a person is not as good as a one, but they are just as good as exercise and eating. By conception, Carolyn Whitbeck defines health in terms of the ability to achieve a wide range of goals or activities that you want to achieve. They can set goals for themselves hat match their needs However, there are some projects or goals that need to be achieved. Connections Yes I have found that there is still a stereotype but there is only so much you can do while still achieving a goal. divergence from normal functioning health is sometimes simply defined as conforming to normal functions that somebody else should be able to do some philosophers such as George’s can GM According to this approach, Ken Nu helm normality is problematic as is often the case with the common or typical of the term. The latter is the definition of using a definition of good or good normality. Right or good in its normal way, but science can only about what’s normal or what is normal and what’s the statistics it can’t give us the normative judgment. or map that statistical sense this is what most of these things are in the normative sense of the way it should be. A chronic disease with someone who can be sick and make a full recovery Someone who may have had a different type of sickness may have a different view of the disease at the same time. For example, a gene that makes individuals more susceptible to sickle cell anemia may also make them less susceptible to malaria. It is simply saying that we are the only gonna care about things that make you more susceptible, but you can run into problems. The more susceptible to the illness or the environmental shock, the more likely it is to consume a lot of food and burn through a need There are some interesting conversations to be found in this position, such as those of others who are not as healthy as they are. If you are feeling good about your underlying biology, then you are feeling good about it. It is a simple short-sighted thing to drink. Short term or even drinking alcohol may feel good in the short term but feel bad in the case of a little bit longer term or in the case of soda. It may be that a small number of people are dealing with short-sighted decisions with their personal health care. The idea is that it is a physical phenomenon or that it is a broad mental and social one and if so in virtue.
Health is defined as the general condition of the body. People can be described as being in good health, or in poor health. Good health involves the condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit, especially being free of disease or pain. can be envisioned as a model called the “health triangle.” Just like a triangle has three angles, personal has three components that are important to focus on. The three angles of the health triangle are physical health, social health, and mental or emotional health. In order to maintain overall good and well- being, it is important to promote healthy activities and good choices in all three areas. Some activities might fall closer to one area of the health triangle than others, while some activities might seem to fit into more than one category, depending on how you view it.
Let’s look at a few specific examples of activities and where they might fall on the health triangle. Exercises like jogging, swimming, or bike riding belong in the physical health area of the health triangle. These activities burn calories, promote cardiovascular health and endurance, and help to build muscle tone. Visiting a doctor for regular checkups and keeping immunizations up-to-date are also activities that fall in the physical health realm. These activities help to promote early detection and treatment of illnesses, and help to keep your body free of disease. Healthy diets rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats help to nourish your body with important vitamins and minerals. Limiting foods that are high in fat and sugar content helps to keep weight in a healthy range. Choosing a healthy diet is another aspect of physical health. For many people, their conception of health ends with the physical realm.
Equally as important, however, is our mental and emotional health and our social health. It might be a bit more difficult to think of activities that fall under these areas but let’s try. Mental and emotional health involves how you think and feel, and how you cope with situations that arise in your life. Avoiding stress and learning to deal constructively with stressful situations is an important component of mental and emotional health. Sometimes stress is an unavoidable part of life. We can avoid or decrease our stress levels by breaking large tasks down into small, approachable steps and prioritizing them based on importance. Budgeting time appropriately to meet deadlines instead of waiting until the last minute, is also a good stress-reducing strategy. Learning is another part of mental and emotional health.
Reading, playing mind games or puzzles, and learning new things inside and outside of school all fall under the mental health category. Meditation is another activity that promotes good mental and emotional health. Even if it’s just for five or 10 minutes during the day, finding time to meditate can generate a sense of peace and calmness in life. Meditation involves sitting or laying down quietly and clearing your mind of all thoughts. Playing soft music, focusing on your breath, or counting slowly are all techniques that help with meditation. The final category of the health triangle is social health. Social health focuses on your relationships with other people. Spending quality time with family and friends is an important aspect of social health. Sharing a meal, participating in a fun activity, or simply holding a conversation together are ways of fostering relationships with others.
Avoiding abusive relationships is a vital component of social health. Abuse can take on many forms: verbal, mental, physical, emotional, or even sexual abuse. Sometimes it can be very difficult to break away from abusive relationships, especially if the abuse is coming from a family member, close friend, or boyfriend or girlfriend. Talking to an adult that you trust can help pave the way out, if you have trouble cutting ties on your own. The activities we listed so far fit somewhat neatly into one of the three areas of the health triangle. Other activities bridge the divide between categories. Establishing good sleep habits, for example, is important for both your physical, and mental and emotional health. It is recommended that an individual get eight hours of sleep daily.
Giving your mind and body the rest it needs can reduce stress and promote physical well-being. Seeking therapy from a licensed mental health professional, guidance counselor, or school psychologist is a way to promote both mental and emotional health, and social health. Attending counseling sessions can help alleviate anxiety caused by stressful, or unhappy situations in life. It can also help to improve relationships with our family members and friends. Groups like Al-anon and Alateen host free meetings to help people cope with substance abuse, either in themselves or in close friends or family. Many religious institutions also offer free counseling to those who request it.
Some activities could be placed in the center of the health triangle because they help to promote all aspects of a healthy lifestyle. Joining a sports team, like soccer, volleyball, or track, obviously develop a person’s physical health because they have an exercise component, but joining a sports team can also promote self confidence and positive thinking, and reduce stress; all components of mental and emotional health. Furthermore, by joining a sports team, a person is bound to make friends that would promote . Yoga is also an activity that encompasses all three domains of the health triangle. Yoga poses tone muscle while developing flexibility. Most yoga classes include a final relaxation and meditation that promote peace of mind. Finally, the principles of yoga, like acceptance and nonviolence, encourage healthy relationships with others.
If you were to complete a health triangle of your own, what activities would you place in each corner of the triangle? Would your triangle seem balanced? What activities could you add to your lifestyle in order to improve your overall and make your triangle more balanced?
What is Health Equity?
These two slides show the importance of the neighborhood and the housing in which it is difficult to imagine. There are a number of different neighborhoods that will be used for the benefit of individuals or families living in these two neighborhoods. The term health disparities really mean differences in status across some of the populations or differences across the population, including our populations. disparities or health differences are really good about an epidemiological observation What about the disparities or health inequalities that a population is looking at when it comes to health care? Some people are healthier than others and what we can do about the World Health Organization 2009 is a commission on social determinants of health and their report According to the , there are a number of inequalities in that are avoidable yetThey are not the only ones who can afford to pay for health care when they are in trouble. What kind of status people will have in their families and communities? Why do some people live better than others or how much healthier than others and how do we create equitable conditions in our states and our societies? Exclusion can lead to poor health There is a wealth health gradient across t He said that populations run across the entire income spectrum, such as the wealthy who are the healthiest and the poor who are less. Wealthy people who are less wealthy and who are more than they are are poor and there is a whole population across the country and we are all affected by that. On the number of social hierarchies where people are affected, the conditions under which they grow live work play and the age of their vulnerability to ill or not.
They may seek out what kind of treatment they are most likely to receive By the conditions and the environments in which the people live, the wellbeing of the people will be affected. the choices people make in their daily lives if you look at your package that you received when you’re registered there is a one-page handout a double sided hand out there about health equity which you may refer to throughout the day on that handout on the second page there is a graphic of the trajectory of health disparities or health inequities that looks at the underlying causes of health inequities and that graphic shows that most of the causes for health and equity and poor are really to be found in the environmental domain not within the choices people make and not within healthcare systems although those are in fact important as well but primarily we need to focus on the environments for health one of the tools that we’ve been using for the last couple of years through the diversity committees and in the department of health and wellness is a film series called unnatural causes is inequality making us sick the short answer to that question is yes we have used this film series we showed it over a period of nine months of the art gallery of Nova Scotia with great audiences and the film series was really able to help us increase our understanding of health equity and inequity and to support spark discussion about how we address some of the inequities that we are within our population some of the key themes from a natural causes included the fact that disparities or inequalities are not natural they are not an available they are human-made they are built into our systems our education systems our economic systems our justice systems our cultural systems we as human beings have created conditions of inequity the choices people make are shaped by the choices that they have the isms are an added burden for health the film series on natural causes really focuses on racism as an added burden for health but in addition sexism heterosexism classism ableism all of these isms impact people’s value as citizens and people’s health the cumulative stress is associated with daily life have negative effects on physical and mental health stress is bad for your health living in difficult for disadvantaged circumstances is bad for your one reason for that is because of the stresses associated with that and cumulative or chronic stress wears down the body systems we have many scientific studies showing the increase in cortisol levels related to high levels of stress and that in fact leads to cardiovascular and other illness where people live is a good predictor of their health your postal code is a good predictor of your health and finally social policy is health policy as I said economic policy agricultural policy housing policy transportation policy these are all policies on which we must focus in order to create more equitable conditions poor health so one of the tools that is contained on the unnatural causes .
